Bamboo jersey is the stuff that dreams are made of. It’s luxuriously soft and silky to the touch, almost delicate. Yet it is an extremely resilient and durable material.

Bamboo fibre is a regenerated fibre made from the pulp of the bamboo plant. The bamboo plant is one of the fastest growing and most eco-friendly plants, making bamboo fabric a very sustainable choice of material. Regenerated fibres are man-made fibers with botanic origin that fall into the general category of Rayon fabrics. Apart from being gloriously soft, Bamboo fabric has a number of great qualities. It is naturally bacteria and odour resistant and a great choice for people with sensitive skin, especially eczema and allergies sufferers. The elastane ensures comfort and gives the fabric a nice stretch with great recovery. As a natural fibre, bamboo knits are absorbent (more than cotton actually), moisture wicking and breathable. It is also a 100% biodegradable material.

Although at 220 sqm considered a mid-weight fabric, bamboo jersey has a "heavy", liquid quality which makes it perfect for projects that require a lot of drape.

Our range of Bamboo jersey holds a variety of vibrant colours to suit every taste. It is composed of 95% Bamboo fibre and 5% Elastane.

How to love your Bamboo Knit Fabric

Bamboo jersey washes beautifully, the dyes are colourfast and because it is a natural fabric, it dries quickly. To avoid shrinkage, we recommend washing your bamboo jersey before starting your project (machine wash at 30℃ degrees). Press carefully on a low temperature iron setting with steam from the wrong side. Aways try on a small piece first.

Sewing with Bamboo Knit

Sewing with bamboo knit isn't much different to sewing with other types of stretch knit but there is some good advise out there that will set you off to a good start. Check out Melly Sews tips to sew rayon knits. For starters you will need a ballpoint needle for stretch or jersey fabrics. You don't necessarily need an Overlocker. Suitable Sewing Patterns

Bamboo jersey is ideal for sewing simple dresses, blouses, skirts and tunics, t-shirts, tanks, leggings. It is also great for childrenswear, sportswear, casual- and loungewear.
