ADULT BEGINNER – Learn to Sew a Loungewear Set - Starts 5th March

6 weeks in March & April

(5th, 12th, 19th, 26th March, 2nd, 9th April)

Wednesdays 2:30pm to 5:00pm

Required: Bring Your Own Machine* + Materials

Skill Level: Confident Beginner + Improvers

This is a 6 class course in which we will complete the Loungewear Set by Peppermint Magazine. Over the course of 6 afternoons we will learn how to take measurements, work with a commercial pattern, make small adjustments and construct a garment. You will need to download the free pattern HERE and you will have to assemble it at home (or you can choose to have the pattern printed on our large format A0 printer at an additional cost). You will have to source fabric as per the requirements for your size. At the end of this course you will walk home with a fabulous handmade coordinating set!

Class is aimed at confident beginners, who have used a sewing machine before and would like to begin their journey into dressmaking.

* We encourage students to bring their own machines, as it’s best to learn on equipment they are familiar with. However, we have a limited number of machines available to loan, should you need one.

PROJECT DETAILS:

With a short-sleeved drop-shoulder top and relaxed-fit cropped pants (with pockets!), this set is the ultimate lounging or travel staple. Layer it with a chunky knit cardigan for cooler days, mix-and-match with separates for trips out of the house, or wear on its own for lazy days at home.

GAIN CONFIDENCE IN:

• Setting up your sewing machine - threading, needle selection, thread choice, troubleshooting and maintenance
• Sewing components - working with woven fabrics, creating neat seams and finishes, sewing curves and points.
  
• Paper pattern reading
• Choosing the right type of fabric and notions for your project
• Pattern preparation and layout, transferring pattern markings to fabric
• Fabric cutting
• Working through a pattern step-by-step
• Basic fitting 
  
  

COST INCLUDES:

• Tuition, tea, coffee and biscuits. 
• Access to our cutting table and ironing station.
  
  

WHAT TO BRING: 

• Fabric as per the pattern requirements for your size
  
• Printed (and assembled) Sewing Pattern
• Basic sewing Kit: Polyester thread, thread snips, fabric scissors, tailors chalk/pencil or water soluble fabric marker, sewing pins, seam ripper/un-picker
• A working sewing machine. 
  
• Optional: Please bring your own reusable cup if you can.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

• If you need to cancel this course one month prior to start date a full refund will be given less third party payment provider fees, two weeks prior to the course a 50% refund will be given. After that time there is no refund given. Your place can be transferred to a friend but this is only for events that have not yet started. You cannot send someone in your place half way through a course.
• We reserve the right to reschedule undersubscribed courses. We will try to give as much notice as possible for events that need to be rescheduled. In the unlikely situation that the event is cancelled you will receive as much notice as possible. We will try to make the event up in the future on the same day and time. 
• Should Fabric Romance cancel a course or individual class and we are unable to reschedule, a full refund will be made within 10 business days, however, a refund will not be issued for any classes cancelled due to extreme weather conditions or any other event beyond our control.
